Potsdam is situated in northeastern Germany southwest of Berlin. Motorways, airports and major railway lines allow easy access from inside and outside Germany.
By Plane
Berlin has two airports: Tegel (TXL) and Schönefeld (SXF).
Taxi prices from the airports to AWI are about 40-50 €.
Take the public transport system (as described below) to get to Potsdam from these airports. You need an ABC Ticket (2,60 €), you have to stamp it on the platform or in the bus!
From Tegel (TXL) airport take Bus line X9 or 109 to station (Bahnhof) Zoo in Berlin, follow the -signs to the regional train station, then take the regional train RE1 to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof (main station).
From Schönefeld (SFX) airport take the regional train RB22 to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof (main station). Both possibilities take about 1 hour.
For the Telegrafenberg walk 20 minutes or take a taxi (5 minutes). At the entrance to the science park ask for the Alfred-Wegener-Institut.
By Car Potsdam is surrounded by highways (Autobahn). The only gap is in the north. Babelsberg, Potsdam Süd or Potsdam Nord are convenient exits. Then follow signs to Zentrum or Landtag (Provincial Government). From the Landtag take Albert Einstein Straße to Telegrafenberg. (20 minutes)
By Train Most fast trains by-pass Potsdam on their way to Berlin. Generally it is best to get off at station Berlin Zoo and then to take the regional train RE1 to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof(main station), which takes about 20 minutes.
Take the taxi to Telegrafenberg (price about 5 €) or walk on foot as above mentioned.
